Walltown Country Park Business Planning
Client: Northumberland National Park Authority
Walltown Country Park, is a 70-hectare (150 acre) site, situated within the Northumberland National Park, near Greenhead. The site is owned and managed for outdoor recreation by Northumberland National Park Authority. Walltown Country Park is an important visitor attraction and key community resource within the National Park Authority’s portfolio of sites along Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, forming part of a developing ‘destination cluster.’
The project aims to transform Walltown Country Park into Hadrian’s Wall’s most accessible outdoor visitor attraction, connecting more visitors and the local community with the rich natural and cultural heritage of the area. The intention is to enhance the country park to create a place to inspire visitors to roam and experience the beauty of the landscape setting of the World Heritage Site.
Part of the vision is to create a year-round, accessible, and inclusive, outdoor visitor attraction at Walltown Country Park, able to offer a wider range of visitor experiences which will complement the world-class and award-winning Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre, as well as other attractions nearby.
As part of the study, we carried out a review of the current visitor offer and business model for Walltown Country Park. We also undertook a market assessment to identify which of the proposed developments will deliver the National Park’s vision most effectively and provide an economically viable and sustainable future for this important country park. We explored the viability of each development option as well as options for different business models for the site. The work will help to deliver a holistic resilience plan to move the Walltown Country Park towards a sustainable future. Find out more about Walltown Country Park here.
