Castle Feasibility Study

The Castle Capital of the World

With over 600 castles, Wales has a unique historic and cultural product, which attracts visitors from all over the world. We have worked with a range of partners to create and develop experiences within these fantastic heritage assets:

At Caerphilly Castle, we worked with Cadw and partners to develop a visitor experience masterplan, including a £10m programme of interventions, to help transform the largest castle in Wales and to engage with new audiences.

Working with Pembrokeshire County Council, we completed a feasibility study at Haverfordwest Castle to develop a flagship heritage visitor attraction to diversify the tourism offer and support the regeneration of the town.

Heritage Visitor Experience Masterplan

Creating memorable experiences

Working with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, we reviewed options and developed a plan of action to enhance the visitor offer at Cefn Colliery Museum to refresh and create a destination attraction.

At Parc Howard Museum, Llanelli, we tested a modernisation programme for the oldest museum in Wales including assessing the opportunity for a catering offer, new interpretation and arrival/ admission experience.

On behalf of Cadwyn Clwyd and the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley AONB we carried out a feasibility study to assess the opportunity to turn a disused landfill site on the outskirts of Llangollen into a nature inspired learning and discovery centre.

Adventure tourism destination development

Developing the activity offer

Working with Swansea Council we helped to identify opportunities to enhance the activity experiences they offer at two residential activity centres.

For the former Tourism Partnership North Wales, we produced their adventure and activity tourism strategy.

Cool accommodation…..cool destinations

With Newport City Council and Monmouthshire County Council we carried out a feasibility study to assess the opportunity to develop low impact and sustainable tourist accommodation to support the rural economy.

We have been working with Forest Holidays to develop their forest lodge product within Wales and throughout the UK.

Planning Solutions Consulting Limited has been commissioned by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council to assess the potential opportunity to introduce overnight visitor accommodation within Gnoll Estate Country Park.

Clients and testimonials

We have worked with a range of clients from Pembrokeshire County Council through to Neath and Port Talbot County Borough Council,  Cadwyn Clwyd, the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley AONB and Natural Resources Wales.   Click here to see our full client list.

Our clients have written several testimonials:

“Pembrokeshire County Council, in conjunction with a partnership of public, private and third sector organisations, procured PSC to develop a robust feasibility study assessing the potential of Haverfordwest Castle to become a flagship heritage attraction. This was a complex study with a range of professionals involved and PSC managed all the various different subcontractors very effectively throughout the process. The study itself includes some of the most defendable revenue business planning assumptions that I have seen in studies of this nature. Oftentimes, consultants can be somewhat overoptimistic in their financial assumptions in order to give clients what they want. Such assumptions can then come back to haunt the organisations that went on to deliver projects which ultimately were not financially viable. In this case, I am confident that the figures provided are realistic and achievable. PSC were always professional, quick to respond and willing to make changes to drafts, some of which were quite significant.” Mike Cavanagh, Head of Cultural, Leisure, Tourism and Registration Services Pembrokeshire County Council
