Visitor Management Plan Inverewe Garden and Estate
Client: National Trust for Scotland
The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) is responsible for over 100 properties and manages approximately 76,000 hectares of land. Properties range from castles to gardens, historic houses, battlefields, nature reserves, islands, and mountain landscapes, including Culloden Battlefield, Culzean Castle, St Kilda, Glencoe National Nature Reserve, Bannockburn, and Falkland Palace and Garden. NTS properties and sites are increasingly facing a range of competing pressures from visitors, the climate emergency and uncertain wider market trends.
Working with Duncan Bryden, a rural tourism specialist, we are preparing a visitor management plan for the NTS property, Inverewe Garden & Estate, a horticultural and heritage destination located in Wester Ross, on the popular North Coast 500 route. The property, with spectacular mountain and coastal views, incorporates a nationally renowned Garden on the Edge alongside Inverewe House, self-catering accommodation, a café, and a visitor centre with interpretation space and a retail offer. The wider estate offers a further 850 hectares for visitors to explore and is dovetailed into the local host community of Poolewe. Find out more about Inverewe Garden & Estate.
