Client: Sedgemoor District Council

Planning Solutions Consulting was commissioned to carry out a tourism and leisure demand study to identify a mix of future uses within the historic Bridgwater Docks.

The docks comprise a collection of Grade II Listed structures including a tidal basin, quayside, three historic locks and the Bascule Bridge. The docks are the terminus of the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, a 16-mile-long restored canal that links these two important towns.

Our work included an assessment of the docks and the wider strategic context to ensure future proposals could help deliver key policy outcomes. A market assessment of the tourism and leisure marketplace was carried out. Product development opportunities were identified and evaluated leading to the identification of a suggested way forward with supporting financial analysis. Visitor impacts and benefits and the next steps were also identified as part of the feasibility study.
