The investment in the cultural and tourism product, for example, the Turner Contemporary Gallery and Dreamland has transformed the visitor offer in Margate. The investment has helped to attract inward investment, raised the profile of Margate and attracted new market segments to visit the District.

However, the town and the wider district need to grow short-break and business tourism to maximise the impact and benefits of the visitor economy.

Key to this is the need to increase the area’s bedroom capacity. Working with Thanet District Council we produced a detailed study on the current provision of tourism accommodation and future opportunities in order to help guide an investment strategy to increase the accommodation bedstock across the District. Our work involved a detailed audit of current visitor accommodation, consultation with hotel developers/operators and other accommodation providers, a review of the market to identify growth patterns, an assessment of site opportunities and the preparation of a delivery action plan.
