Client: South Tyneside Council

We worked on a major masterplanning project to secure the redevelopment of a 30ha site at South Shields riverside for comprehensive regeneration for a new mixed use neighbourhood, accommodating employment, leisure and residential uses. We were appointed by South Tyneside Council and One NorthEast to provide specialist leisure input to assist develop an economic appraisal of the scheme together with securing outline planning.

The focus of our work was to establish a new riverside environment, known as the New Shore. The New Shore follows the river frontage and is linked to existing and proposed residential communities via a series of terraces. The area designated for the New Shore is characterised by significant area of redundant docks. Our specific role was to test and determine a viable and deliverable activity mix that will provide a range of opportunities for existing (and new) communities as well as visitors to the town.
