Priory Park Visitor Experience Masterplan
Client: Huntingdonshire District Council
Parks play an important role in the community and present opportunities for environmental enhancement, physical activity, active travel, wellbeing, learning and education, climate change mitigation, economic development and placemaking. PSC was commissioned to advise on the development, to enhance the visitor experience and financial resilience of Priory Park, an urban park located in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Prior Park extends to approximately 80 acres (32 hectares) and is the former grounds for the 18th-century Rowley Estate. The park incorporates two sports pavilion buildings, an enclosed play area, a woodland trim trail, a zipline, a basketball court, five full-size pitches and four mini soccer pitches
Our work included a site visit to understand the current operation, issues, challenges and opportunities alongside a programme of engagement. The residential population base was analysed, particularly residents living within the 0 to 15 and 16 to 30-minute drivetime catchments of Priory Park, alongside wider trends in the parks sector. The provision of other parks was also considered. A range of interventions for Priory Park were identified and evaluated to identify the lead development scenario, which also considered phasing.
