Pennington Flash Nature Reserve – business plan

Nature Reserve Business PlanPennington Flash Nature Reserve – business plan

Client: Wigan Council
Pennington Flash Nature Reserve is one of eight local sites comprising The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh National Nature Reserve (NNR), the only NNR in Greater Manchester.  The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh NNR cover approximately 800 hectares of land / waterbodies incorporating Wigan Flashes, Amberswood, Low Hall, Three Sisters,  Viridor Woods, Lightshaw Meadows,  Bickershaw Country Park and Pennington Flash.

Pennington Flash Nature Reserve covers approximately 200 hectares and along the boundary of the site runs the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.   Working with TEP, we were commissioned to prepare the supporting business plan for a site wide masterplan.   Our work included a review of the site from an operational and visitor experience perspective, we also carried out a market analysis and an options appraisal to identify opportunities to sustainably enhance the visitor experience.  We also prepared a supporting financial analysis for the preferred development option.
