Client: Bridgend County Borough Council
Newbridge Fields is a key community asset of strategic importance to Bridgend. Planning Solutions Consulting Limited was commissioned to evaluate the sustainable development of Newbridge North – an area encompassing the Bridgend Sports RFC Pavilion, the disused bowls green, and the Nant Cefn-glas green space. Our approach:

Contextual Analysis: We carried out an audit of the study area including the existing Bridgend Sports RFC pavilion building. The local demographic profile was analysed. The strategic context was reviewed to ensure future options aligned with key policy outcomes, helping to build the strategic case for investment.

Community-Led Insights: To build a robust evidence base, we engaged park users through bilingual surveys (English/Welsh) and a community drop-in event.

Collaborative Design: Working alongside Hiraeth Architecture, we identified and evaluated a longlist of potential options. For the preferred options to emerge supporting concept drawings were produced.

Next Steps: Funding options and clear next steps were identified.

Whilst contracted by the Resilient Communities Team within BCBC, the project is driven by the Community Asset Transfer Team, Bridgend Sports RFC, Bridgend Athletics Club and Bridgend Municipal Bowls Club, with all three clubs being based at Newbridge North.

The project received funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
