Operational review and change plan for visitor centres and bike hire centres
Client: Peak District National Park Authority
The Peak District National Park Authority manages four visitor centres and three bike hire operations. Central government funding for National Parks in the UK has fallen in real terms over the last decade. Similar to many visitor sites and other tourism businesses the current market place is very challenging.
In 2024, PSC was commissioned to carry out a detailed operational analysis of the four visitor centres and three bike hire centres and prepare a development strategy with a focus on: enhancing the visitor experience, improving public engagement and building financial resilience
Our work included: Site visits; analysis of the individual sites / business units (to understand the baseline position in terms of the financial performance, visitor offer and public engagement activities); engagement with key front line staff and the Senior Management Team; analysis of case examples – learning from best practice, helping to further build the evidence base; review of the marketplace with a particular focus on trends which impact on the operation of the centres; and development of a strategy and supporting SMART Action Plan to help build financial resilience, improve the ‘experiences’ and enhance public engagement activities (identifying key staff, resource and financial implications).
