Feasibility study for new visitor infrastructure and education facilities
Planning Solutions Consulting was commissioned by BirdWatch Ireland to lead a feasibility study exploring and evaluating opportunities to develop visitor infrastructure, visitor experience and an education offer at one of its nature reserves in Ireland. As lead consultants working alongside architects and ecologists, the feasibility study included:
- A detailed site assessment of the reserve
- A review of the strategic and planning policy contexts
- Consultation with BirdWatch Ireland, a Local Branch, and officers from the local authority
- A market assessment and benchmarking exercise against nature reserves across the Republic of Ireland and the UK
- Identification and appraisal of development options, informed by the consultation and research findings
- Concept plans for the preferred option were produced with our architect partners
- A financial model and risk assessment
- Clear recommendations and next steps for implementation
The result was an evidence-based feasibility study allowing BirdWatch Ireland to make informed decisions about investing in the visitor experience and environmental education at the reserve.
