Margam Castle – feasibility study

Heritage consultantClient: Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council
As part of a National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Planning Solutions Consulting Limited was commissioned by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council to work in a multi-disciplinary project team to explore new uses for Margam Castle, a Grade I listed building, located in attractive large parkland setting. The landscape is listed as Grade I on the Register of Landscapes, Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. The site also incorporates the Grade I listed Orangery which was built in 1790 – a large venue which can be hired for weddings, social functions and other uses. The wider parkland incorporates a children’s village, a Go Ape experience, gardens, a miniature 24-inch gauge railway and Margam Park Adventure.

Our work involved a review of the current operation of the park, a market assessment, consultation, analysis of case examples and preparing a 10 year financial model for the preferred development option for the Castle.
