Heritage Lottery Fund business planning consultancy project

Client: Shropshire Council

Ditherington Flax Mill Maltings, located in Shrewsbury, is a unique and internationally important site which was awarded £12.8 million in HLF funding. It contains seven listed buildings, including the first cast-iron-framed building considered the world’s first ‘skyscraper’.

We produced the business plan for parts of the restoration project relating to the main heritage, visitor and education facilities. This involved a market assessment and financial review of the proposed visitor elements, including revenue-generating opportunities. The wider project includes proposed residential and commercial uses. We worked alongside Activity Planner Marion Blockley, a leading heritage and interpretation expert, on behalf of the client team including English Heritage, Shropshire Council and the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings.
