Feasibility Study and Options Review for a Canalside Site

Canal Consultancy ProjectFeasibility Study and Options Review for a Canalside Site

Client: Canal and River Trust
PSC undertook a feasibility study and options review to look at options for improving an operational site and evaluating opportunities to develop adjacent recreation and community uses at an active canal which is considered an important asset for the Canal and River Trust.

As part of the brief we were tasked with assessing options for enhancing the site and wider neighbouring land holdings. The key aspect was to ensure any proposals were fully able to meet the Trust’s objectives and contribute to wider community needs particularly with regards to outdoor recreation and tourism.

Our work involved liaison with multiple stakeholders and in-house team leaders with the intention to build a consensus around a preferred option including funding and recommendations regarding on-going delivery. A module of primary research and a market assessment were carried out to inform the development planning for the site.

Following agreement by the Trust to our initial findings we liaised with architects to develop the preferred option to RIBA Stage 2 setting out a clear plan of action to develop the concept into reality, (as Stage II of the commission). PSC also produced an accompanying Outline Business Case.
