Enhancing the Visitor Experience at West Port Lake Visitor Centre, Stoke on Trent

West Port Lake Visitor CentreClient: Staffordshire Wildlife Trust

The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust manages 25 nature reserves across Staffordshire including the innovative visitor and education centre at West Port Lake in Stoke-on-Trent. This was built by British Waterways (now known as the Canal & River Trust) and is adjacent to the Trent and Mersey Canal and incorporates the Westport Lake Local Nature Reserve, with a conservation area, wildflower meadow and wooded area.  The visitor centre includes a catering offer and overlooks an attractive lake.

Our work focussed on accessing the existing visitor experience at West Port Lake Visitor Centre and wider site. Following the assessment we identified cost effective ways to enhance the existing visitor experience to engage with new and existing audiences along with increasing dwelltime and visitor spend. Our operational experience of managing four visitor experiences helped to shape and inform out work for the Trust. Find out more about the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
