Duncan Bryden BSc, MSocSc, Rural Regeneration Associate

Duncan BrydenDuncan is a highly experienced and professionally qualified consultant working across the rural regeneration spectrum with specialisms in sustainable tourism, community consultation and development, heritage interpretation and access. His work involves analysis and innovative thinking in developing business plans, feasibility studies, reviews, funding package rationales, change and action plans.

With an Ecological Science degree from the University of Edinburgh Duncan has a particular interest in sustainability, low carbon and the green economy. A Chartered Biologist, he is an alumnus of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership programme. Previously he was Chairman of the Cairngorms National Park Authority, Vice Chair of National Parks UK and a regional Board member of the Forestry Commission. Currently he is chair of a national NGO delivering upland access through paths and car parking. He teaches tourism at postgraduate level.

Duncan has wide experience of governance and structure in the community sector. Working with over 25 communities across Scotland he has helped secure over 80,000 hectares of land and buildings into thriving community ownership. He is a director of a small community company with employees and assets in excess of £3 million.

Duncan has completed all of Scotland’s 282 Munros (Mtn over 3000’), climbs and rides a bike for fun.
