We were commissioned along with Blue Sail to produce a five-year Destination Management Plan (DMP) for the Council to help extend the season and create a year-round tourist destination. The destination benefits from its accessibility to a large population base, attractive coastline, rich cultural heritage and proximity to the North York Moors National Park. As part of the Destination Management Plan, we produced a new vision to stimulate the market and carried out an audit of the tourism product which helped to identify gaps within the product portfolio along with marketing activities and visitor information. Alongside this, we worked with an extensive range of stakeholders to identify priority markets and opportunities. A market review was also completed which enabled the DMP to respond to emerging trends and comparator destinations were benchmarked. This led to the production of a new strategic Destination Management Plan which provided the framework for the planning, development and marketing of tourism across Redcar and Cleveland. A critical first stage of the Destination Management Plan was to identify and evaluate opportunities to support a green recovery from COVID-19.
