West Norwood Cemetery restoration, January 2019

Good news for a project we have worked on. West Norwood Cemetery which is one of London’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ cemeteries has secured £4.6 million of Lottery Funding (Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund) to take a major restoration project forward. The cemetery includes 69 listed monuments and the project involves restoring a number of the monuments as well as St Stephen’s Chapel and the development of two new entrances. The cemetery lodge will also be extended.

HLFs CEO Ros Kerslake, said: “This National Lottery investment will safeguard West Norwood Cemetery’s significant heritage and transform what it can offer as a space for urban nature and wildlife. Whilst its stories and monuments shine a light on the past, the cemetery’s worth as a community space means that it will play a valuable and expanded role today”.
