West Norwood Cemetery was established in 1837. The Grade II* listed Cemetery is the second of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ cemeteries located in London. The Cemetery incorporates over sixty different Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings, structures and monuments, including:

• The catacombs
• Memorial Garden
• Rose Gardens
• St Stephen’s Chapel
• The Crematorium, Recordia and Columbarium
• An impressive gateway entry point designed by Sir William Tite

The Cemetery has a number of high profile burials including Mrs Beeton, Baron Julius de Reuter and Sir Henry Tate along with a large number of attractive and interesting monuments and mausoleums.

St Stephen’s Chapel will be restored and the cemetery lodge will be extended, helping to transform both buildings into spaces for visitor and community uses.

As part of a Heritage Lottery Fund cemetery project PSC were commissioned to work with the London Borough of Lambeth, the project architects and Friends organisation to advise on the development of the experience at West Norwood Cemetery. This included identifying key audiences and core operational considerations.

The project has secured Lottery funding.  The total project value is £6.7million.
