Cordelia Mellor-Whiting

Museum Curator - National Brewery Centre - Museum of Brewing

Cordelia is the curator at the National Brewery Centre and she has over 15 years experience of working in the museums and heritage sectors. At the National Brewery Centre Cordelia is responsible for the documentation of the extensive collection, ensuring conservation standards are implemented and maintained, responding to research enquiries, creating temporary and permanent exhibitions and identifying grant aid and sponsorship funding streams. Developmental plans include the extension of the library facility into a centre for research, updating the museum displays and interpretation facilities and building working relationships with neighbouring attractions, museums and businesses. She is also responsible for managing the specialist retail area.

She is also implementing the Museum Accreditation process and manages the team of volunteers which assist with the running of the National Brewery Centre.

Prior this she worked at Conkers as the Retail Manager where she was responsible for increasing retail spend and carried out research which led to the redesign of the shop in terms of space used to create a new enhanced retail experience.

Prior to joining Planning Solutions Cordelia has held a number of roles in the museum and heritage sectors, including working as the Curator and Manager of Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, which includes a coffee shop, gift shop, conference room and Tourist Information Centre. Under Cordelia’s management the Museum increased its profile in the market place, increased sales in the gift shop and TIC and introduced a monthly farmers market. Cordelia has also worked as the Marketing & Events Officer and Museum Manager at Erasmus Darwin House Museum, following time spent at the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum (Lichfield), Derby Museum & Art Gallery and the Shugborough Estate (Staffordshire).
