Network Rail has unveiled plans for a new £34bn high-speed railway link between London and Scotland. The High Speed link will help cut journey times between London, the Midlands, the North West and Glasgow. It is the second of its kind in the UK, after the construction of the Channel Tunnel link between Folkestone and London St Pancras. The train will travel up to speeds of 200mph and is expected to reduce journey times from London to Birmingham from one hour 22 minutes to just 46 minutes, and journey times to Scotland halved.
